[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_tq8OMIY7I] A couple of days ago we had an internal demo of our software prototype: apart from minor problems with screen resolution on my virtual machine, it's been quite good. We showed how we are integrating the itsme front-end with Guglielmo, our meta/data management system. We presented two scenarios: writing and saving a new document with gedit, from within the itsme UI; composing and sending email, and getting replies into the right venue. This means we have Guglielmo running and the itsme front-end exploiting its services, we are successfully integrating some simple Linux applications (text editing) and communicating via email. Moreover, we have the...

Wazzup Geeks???
ITSME SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT In the last couple of weeks the tech team met several times to discuss the software development status, which is one of the reasons why we weren’t very active on the blog. However, here is a quick update... We are currently busy on two sides. On one side, we are trying to make our very first Guglielmo implementation a reality, we call it release 0.1 which will be a first assembly of several building blocks as highlighted over here. The goals of this first early release are twofold: having some working path to exercise our new metaphor with real running...

We recently updated the ongoing design activity document with the technical deliverables, revealing the itsme OS software architecture, and other details such as the choice of the development platform (language, libraries, environment..etc.). All related to the first demonstrator. The first demonstrator will then be followed by the development of a prototype. The itsme operating system (seen above) will expand the linux operating system beyond its current horizons. It will consist of two main parts: a front end based on the stories and venues metaphor and a backend, situated between a standard linux operating system and the front end, delivering the services...

Three days of tech madness
Our technical workshop has been extremely fruitful. Before last Wednesday we had a clear vision of the Itsme interface and we had ideas on the role of each element of the GUI, also with respect to the contents to be managed... but we had very few things on paper on how to implement and to code those ideas. As you've read in a previous post by Nikhil that the tech team settled on the upper floor with plenty of post-its and markers, and now let me tell you what we did. Day 1: We started from the definition of the logical...
