Mentioned below are some features that are being implemented in the prototype as far as the frame panels is concerned, and some open issues that emerged from our discussions.
But first, what are frame panels in itsme OS?
The frame is the uppermost layer of the itsme OS that includes all the elements that must be accessible at all times independent from the actual visualization. In order to make these elements always available the frame is composed by several sliding panels, appearing and disappearing according to the user interaction.
In itsme two kinds of panels are provided: temporary spaces for unorganized contents (the...
Hi there,
We are back from the summer break, with a lot of conferences lined up in the following days. The first one in line is UX AUSTRALIA 2009 for which guido has prepped up and leaves today. UX Australia 2009 is a 3-day user experience design conference, with inspiring and practical presentations, covering a range of topics about how to design great experiences for people. Guido's talk will be focusing on the context analysis, issues and process undertaken with the intent to design a new workstation based on an open source OS and a new metaphor. If you have a...
The Interaction Design team is not the only one going through a process of assessment and refinement of the choices made so far: the tech team is also working on an extensive redesign of the frontend for the itsme prototype.
The prototype has always been a tool to validate technical choices, with the nice side effect of putting into practice the ideas coming from the ID team. While being the right thing to do at the time, this meant that... well, let's face it: the prototype was pretty ugly ;)
In the last months we carried on a redesign effort, which went...
Thoughts around default setup impact in os interaction design, from an article by Kevin Kelly.
During my traditional Saturday lazy breakfast I ran into Kevin Kelly’s post on "Triumph of default". Coincidently we are in this phase of the project, where we are beginning to face all the issues related to personalization, system automatic behaviours, and OS pro-activity versus user intentional profiling.
As KK says,
"the privilege of establishing what value the default is set at, is an act of power and influence",
so we are feeling a bit under pressure now.
There are two main issues emerging from this consideration. On one hand,...
I state in advance that you're doing a good work. So be patient if I am too boring ^_^
I want to make a remark on buttons that manage a single window: messages, posts, media, etc.
The behaviour is clear, user clicks one time for single view, two times for multiple-view. With the unselected mode, there are three different statuses pointed out by radio buttons.
When multiple-view is selected, at the moment all radio buttons are switched off. I suggest to turn all radio buttons on for this kind of configuration.
p.s. this post is also a test for...
ITSME INTERFACE DEVELOPMENT
Thanks to the work that the Interaction Design Team has started in the last three weeks on refining the interface qualities of the venue, including graphical and behavioral aspects, (you can find the related post here), the ID team presented the first outputs during the last iterative session with Software Development Team: the first release of itsme GUI package.
The work focused at first on the refinement of the venue graphic user interface, as the core element of the itsme concept and then converged in the consolidation of dimensions and skinning of each graphic item.
In the meeting with...
We are glad to inform you that our proposal has been accepted for UXAUSTRALIA 2009 which is a 3-day user experience design conference, with inspiring and practical presentations, covering a range of topics such as information architecture, interaction design, information design, content, visual design & strategy. A community conference with proposals from the community and reviewed by the community. We got the acceptance last month and we scored fairly well (Yeah i know, scores!). We got some interesting reviews as well. What we are really kicked about is, that now, we have an opportunity to let Australia know what...
Over the past few months we have defined the ID Model, released explorations of Interaction Paradigms and Preliminary GUI, to achieve a detailed design of itsme visual interface. But until we understand how people perceive them, we’re not going to make good use of the work we have done until now.
We need to know how do you perceive itsme functionalities, what values do you attribute to itsme features, how well, you think, we have been able to interpret the concept “stories and venues”, and further investigate to identify and understand user needs. Only then can we begin to make informed...
