Itsme featured on “Abitare”. Vote for Itsme!
Itsme has just been featured on "Abitare", the international design magazine. The article is available also in the online edition, here. In particular, our project has been inserted in the section "Italian Oxygen", a wide-ranging survey of inventiveness in Italy. There is also an open competition among the different projects included in Italian Oxygen. Therefore, if you are interested in supporting us, be a judge and...VOTE FOR ITSME! It is simple: read the article and, at the end, select the number of stars that you want to associate to Itsme. The more the stars, the more the chances we have to "win the game". The...

New prototype video
It's been some months since we showed (on this site) our prototype. Of course, our code has evolved – both in its visible part and in what's running underneath (Guglielmo). In this video, you'll see the itsme graphical user interface as it is now (well, some days ago: October 2009) and a quick demo of the functions we have: interaction with panels and venues: re-arranging them, filtering contents with channels and subvenues, drag and drop, and so forth. We omitted showing how to create a new venue and renaming it, but it is possible, of course :) working with Linux applications:...

Let’s go beyond the desktop…
Here is a short video clip. We took a shot at it, so comments are very...

GUI Package 1.0
ITSME INTERFACE DEVELOPMENT Thanks to the work that the Interaction Design Team has started in the last three weeks on refining the interface qualities of the venue, including graphical and behavioral aspects, (you can find the related post here), the ID team presented the first outputs during the last iterative session with Software Development Team: the first release of itsme GUI package. The work focused at first on the refinement of the venue graphic user interface, as the core element of the itsme concept and then converged in the consolidation of dimensions and skinning of each graphic item. In the meeting with...

itsme plugin architecture
itsme is an open source project, but this does not mean that contributing directly on our code will be the only way to integrate new ideas into our system. We have designed (and we are implementing) an architecture that allows extensions to be easily integrated, like simple plug-ins. The basic idea is quite simple: developers will be allowed to create bundles, packages to distribute customized applications or itsme components (e.g., new channels for itsme venues, possibly devoted to peculiar aims). These bundles will include a subset of the parts presented in the diagram below: According to itsme system architecture, developers will...

Technical development seminar
Yesterday, the tech team held a seminar to present the on-going activities at the development front, process so far and activities planned for the future(not so far away). The audience was challenging: experts in the area, professors from DISCo, and investors, who were there to know details about the software we are developing – in the end, that’s the core business of our company! We explained to them the major problems we are facing at the moment (e.g., licensing policies), motivated our basic choices (e.g., development method, phylosophy, and strategies), and described the features of some of our main...

Giorgio’s interview – GMFE 2009
Giorgio has been invited to GUGLIELMO MARCONI GLOBAL FORUM & EXHIBITION (GMFE 2009) to give a talk on the idea and vision behind itsme to a high-calibre audience coming from the business and science communities. GMFE is held every year to honour the Nobel prize-giving to Guglielmo Marconi (1909-2009), the radio inventor. The event offers an opportunity to shed light on the state-of-the-art of the ICT industry and outline future scenarios and prospects, a real global vision. There will be speeches, lasting 60 minutes each, delivered by independent speakers, experts, teachers, consultants and trainers. They are organized in co-operation with universities,...

What is our tech team up to?
They have locked themselves in the upper floor of Itsme loft, stay there from morning till evening, and all we get to hear are heavy discussions(hard to decipher what’s being discussed), all we get to see are post-its (in bulks) and some lines and blocks that look like flowcharts. What's this all about ? From left to right Vincenzo Di Massa (From Siena Uni), Roberto "Madbob" Guido (check lobotomy project), Lorenzo, Alessandro, Fabio and Michele (Sabayon guys), Giovanni and finally Marco who is probably on the other side of the lens. I am told that they have a three-day intense workshop...

A fond farewell to Festival della Creatività
The 4 days of "Come design itsme with us" at FDC are over and we are back to our office in Milan. From seeing the response we got and the time spent with charged, inquistive yet friendly evaluators, it's been an incredible 4 days of “Come Design Itsme with Us”. We are really grateful to have had this opportunity to show the concept to the visitors and have them evaluate it. Here are some moments captured on cam. one of the busy moments There is always a moment of pride, and here it is. The 2x8mt wall almost about to get filled with participant's...
